Piccolo Short Flap - made to order

**Please Note**  These bags are made in batches and sold through a monthly pre-order timetable that’s open to 20 units. Orders open at the beginning of the month and close at the end of the month or when all 20 units have been sold. The bags are fabricated the following month and shipped by the end of the month. Keep in mind BXB is a small operation, please allow the entire two months to fulfill your order.

A smaller sibling to the Goldback with an updated design, the Piccolo Short Flap is BXB’s take on a mid-capacity transverse handlebar and saddle bag. It comes in two sizes; small & large with 10.5L and 13.5L main compartments, exactly 14 and 18  750 mL bottles of wine respectively, plus the two side pockets for meats, cheeses and other antipasti! While we call it a short-flap, rest assured its lid is amply sized for tightening down an overflowing bag. It has a dowel at the base of the bag to prevent it from folding over the head tube or, on the rear, keep it away from the back of the thighs when used with foam spacers. The bag is meant to be run rack-less though can easily work with small rack platforms and ‘pec deck’ minimal rack setups.

Piccolo Short Flap Features:

  • External wooden dowel sleeve at main top strap point acts as a stiffening batten for the bag. It is removable but is held in place by a #6 x 1/2” wood screw phillips head.
  • Additional lower external dowel sleeve that helps prevent the bag from folding over the head tube, reducing sway and increasing rigidity and tire clearance. It is removable but is held in place by a #6 x 1/2” wood screw phillips head.
  • HDPE rigid body liner - removable.
  • Hypalon panel on underside and back for lashing to racks, head-tube and seat-posts. Very good against abrasion.
  • Triple stitched main seams
  • Fabric, straps, buckles made in U.S.A.
  • Sewn in Atlanta, GA

Piccolo Short Flap Small Need to Knows:

  • Handlebar attachment:
    • Best way to attach at main strap point: 15” Voile BXB branded straps or Voile Nano 9-12” straps with 2-3 pairs of foam spacers between bag and bars.
    • Strap lower dowel to the head tube (rackless setup), passing the strap behind the dowel and maybe using a foam spacer block or two between the bag and head tube for cosmetic protection.
    • Strapping the bag tightly to the handlebars/stem faceplate can cause abrasion - different faceplates and bolts can rub in different ways - so use the foam spacers push the bag away from the stem faceplate.
  • Saddle attachment:
    • The Voile Nano 6” straps are the easiest to loop around saddle loops or a Hobopieces Restuvus saddle loop attachment or similar.
    • Strap the lower dowel at the seat post using 2-4 foam spacer blocks to push the bag away from the backs of the thighs (rackless setup).
    • **If using Brooks All Weather saddles with plastic chassis where the rails attach, please use sandpaper to ‘break the edge’ of the saddle loop opening. It seems like the plastic injected mold has very sharp edges where the straps pass through and making it less sharp helps prevent it from cutting through the straps, I haven’t had an issue with the C-series metal rail/chassis.
  • The bag does not claim to be fully waterproof. However, I do my best to weather-proof the bag through material choice and construction. If you need items to be fully-waterproof, use lightweight & affordable dry bags.
  • When attached to handlebars like drop bars or flat/riser MTB bars, cable and hose lengths may need to be adjusted.

Bags include:

  • Voile Nano 9" strap set
  • 6 foam spacer blocks, 3/8” thick
  • ¾” nylon strap with cam buckle.
